The more sinister part of Calamere, the city’s backstreets are dangerous places to wander if you are not strong enough to fight off an attacker. These roads are poverty stricken, and although efforts have been made to try and clean up this mar on the city, a successful attempt has never been made. Crunkards and lechers roam the streets, and unless your keen to have your purse stolen from you it's vital that you keep a close eye on your belongings.
However, this is the place to go if you are after some awkward ingredient for a potion, something that you can’t get off your everyday stall, or something that isn’t exactly… *ahem*… legal…

Darhin stumbled through the dark alleys, slumbing against a side wall. He slide down and curled up in a ball. Thinking over what had happen. It had been six years, he was just eleven when his family and all the people he knew threw him out of their town. Since then he had traveled many, many miles. Into this foreign country. Leaven Tern behind. He had sought to live a life of peace.
But know he met someone he could possibly befriend and all he had to do was tell her the truth. But what if she was wrong? What if she didn't accept him? What if she told the others who he was?
Isn't that a risk everyone takes when befreinding someone? a voice in his mind asked him. When meeting new people everyone takes a chance wheter the person will like them or not. He just had higher stakes.
He made up his mind, he was going to tell her the truth, and if she didn't accept him so be it, he'll leave and go to another town somewhere else, his life here had been nonexistant, there was nothing to fear in losing. Getting up he was about to walk back to find her only to stop.
There standing in front of him where three large men, with dirty looks in their eyes, and more importantly, weapons in thier hands.

Cien had decided to follow him, not just to satisfy her curiosity this time, but because she realised that something was seriously amiss. Maybe it was his expression as he left, she just couldn't tell, but whatever it was, Puru-puru certainly didn't agree with her. It had first bounded out of her hood into the street as she walked and sat there, as if it expected her to put off her plan and return to it. Then, when she had shown no signs of turning back, it had bounced back up to her and slid itself into her pocket sulkily. It became even sulkier as Cien, who was now wearing the aforementioned eyeglass and was trying to trace the aura of the one she was following, turned into the darker part of the city. Cien sighed impatiently and signalled at it to keep quiet as she sensed a few other hostile presences.
Silently turning a corner, she saw her quarry...
and he was in trouble.
But her eyeglass showed her splinters of him, through his shield, it somehow seemed that he had accepted her. As the three men advanced, she spoke silently to their 'victim'-
'You can fight...can't you?'

Darhin didn't even notice that Cien was their, but if he did he certianly would have felt grateful. But he was concentrating too much to notice her. Drawing in every amount of strenght he had. He was weapon less, and would have to fight these men with his magic. The first time he showed them to a person ever.
He didn't hesitate.
His right hand started to glow with a blue light as three large spikes, pure ice shards, suddenly appeared and was sent hurdling toward the men. Unfortunately, two of them missed but the other hit the bandit and sent him flying off to a side wall.
Darhin watched as one of the remaining two men rushed at him sword drawn, as if to gut him. He swiftly dodged, but unfornately tripped and landed roughly against the ground there was nothing he could do as he watched the man raise the sword above his head.

Cody had just left the ball and had been wandering the city streets looking for the cheapest inn. He heard a scuffle in one of the nearby alleys. Cody Evans felt in the air that someone was in trouble. He turned the corner and noticed that three thieves were attacking a young man. One of the thieves looked to down already. Cody eyes intensefied as he drew his great-hammer. The sword was coming down but Cody swung connecting with the man's chest which sent him hurtling into the alley wall. Cody turned and looked at the other thief and roared a inhuman roar. The thief ran back into the darkness he had come from. Cody turned to the young man. "They should leave you alone young man. Be more careful though." Cody Evans brushed the white hair out of his eyes and put his great-hammer back onto his back. He eyed the young man then turned and left.

Darhin stood up, shocked looking at Cien who he finally noticed, and looked once more in the direction that the man had left. "Who was that?" He asked, more to himself than to anyone else.
Turning to Cien he realized that she had saw everything, including the spell he cast. He understood he owed her an explanation, sighing he said, "I think we need to talk."

Cien glanced at the man who left. "That was..." She turned back to Darhin and smiled. "Alright. But before, that, just to make it fair, let me tell you that I am a mind reader. I have managed to control my powers using these eyeglasses, but the one I am wearing now has just enough to see a little bit more of you than you told me. I suppose it is because you had already lowered your shield slightly when I came. Whatever it is, I definitely will not run away, or shun you, even-"
"Even if you are an elemental."

Darhin, tried not to let his uneasiness show on his face, his secret was out. There was no hiding from it. He decided to tell her everything. She saw him use his powers, and he had her word. He trusted her.
"I was once a lord, the son of baron in Thern. My father was a powerful man, who had much influence in his town. However that did not stop the city from going into a revolt when they found out I was a water elemental" He paused for a second, to gauge her reaction. There wasn't much surprise. She really was a Thought-Mage, he guessed as much. "I ran away, and never returned. It's been six years since then and all this time I have been working at the Silver Drake Inn. That's my story" He smiled at her, surprised how realived he was to let it out.
"I guess its only fair that I ask yours..."

Cien grinned. "There really is not much to say. I'm from a travelling family, my father loved knowledge as much as he loved his freedom. My powers, on the other hand...well, they cause as much fear as yours do if they are used properly. Mind-control, thought-searching, the erasing or replacing of memories...its almost endless, the possibilities."

That sparked a bit of fear in him. Though he tried not to let it show, and but up his mind shield so she couldn't sense it. But he figured she would know of his reaction anyways. "The only difference is," Darhin began, "Is that most of civilazation has come to terms with the Thought-Mages, and only fears them when they do something wrong. Unlike I on the other hand had been chased out of my home for no reason except that I was an elemental." He realized that his words were kind of harsh so he added, "I'm not saying this against you, it's not your fault."

Cien was silent for a moment before replying. "Yes, they have accepted thought mages. As weapons. As spies. For their own benefit. To use in the war, as sacrifices of the state and...to kill. Probably without realising that every thought we receive affects us as well. The death cry of those we kill-"
She shook herself inwardly. "I'm sorry, I'm just babbling. But I admit it's true that people fear you. I happen to know," she smiled, "a few other elementals myself. But your power, like mine, is the same as a skill. Its how we use it that really matters."

Darhin was surprised, she knew of other elementals? But there unbelievably rare! "How many do you know of?" He was almost afriad to find out and trilled at the same time. There was others like him in this city! He wondered what he could possibly say if he met them.

"A few," she answered slowly. She had promised to keep Kai's secret, and would not jeopardise Lady Brynna's position. "I'm afraid I can't really say, but I'm sure that one of these days, you will definitely meet them."

Darhin smiled, finding it came more when talking to her, "I'll be happy to met them someday." There were other elemenals here in Calamere! He knew that he would have to seek her out to find them, and he would be happy to spend more time in her company, "Where do you stay? Is there a chance I can meet you again somewhere? What about that ball? I was thinking of attending, are you going there?"
(Lets just say for confusion wise that this happened before you went to the ball)

(alright...actually, I haven't posted much at the ball ) "Yes, most likely you will." Cien smiled. Darhin exuberated the same glow as Brynna had before, when they had met. "In fact, you will meet some other interesting people as well. With that said, I hope we can meet there too. It was a pleasure getting to know you."

Darhin, smiled, "It was a pleasure meeting you too." and with that they went their seperate ways. He knew that he should return to the Inn now. His boss would have a fit. Yet he didn't feel like it. He wanted to just go out and think for a bit. Wasn't there some plains out in the valley next to Calamere?
