The city's Cathedral is built to worship the four Gods: Father Sky; Mother Earth; Lord Ocean; and Lady Fire. There are rows of mahogany seats in front of four shrines, one four each of the deities. The shrines are decorated with gold, silver, ivory and almost every precious jewl imaginable. On the other side of the Cathedral are four stone bowls. In the first there is rainwater, in the second grows plants of all varieties, the third is full of seawater and a fire rages in the fourth. Priests and Priestesses carry out their duties here, tending to visitors and expressing their faith by keeping the shrines clean and holy, carrying out daily rituals to kep the Gods happy.

Sophia slipped into the Cathedral, tears streaming down her face. Looking up at the altar, she muttered a silent prayer, to any God that might be listening. Please look after my baby. Running a slender hand over her stomach, she rpayed that someone might take pity on her. She had thought about coming to the priesthood... But they would condemn the child, and she couldn't bear for that to happen.
Sitting in prayer for a moment, she dried ehr eyes and eased herself up. At least they might give her a little food and water... Turning to one of the sisters, she pleaded for some bread and milk. The Priestess willingly obliged, and soon Sophia was sat at the back of the Cathedral hungrily devouring the warm food. What am I going to do? she thougth. I'm only seventeen... And I have already blown my chance at life... She felt the baby stir. But still... life carries on. And so so must I.

Cien hushed Puru-puru and entered the cathedral. It was large, silent and stony, filling her with a peace so difficult to find. She had fond memories of such places. As a mind-reader, she was so often bombarded by other peoples thoughts, all of which had caused her much pain when she was young, and still unable to control her power.
Thoughts endlessly invading her mind...
She stopped suddenly. Her mind was suddenly flooded with unseen tears, like a wave of regret and disappointment. Turning to one of the priests, she quietly enquired if there was anyone else in the cathedral. He directed her towards the back and walked off, busy with other duties.
Cien glanced at his retreating figure and walked hesitatingly towards the person. It would not do if she accidentally walked in on someone who was nursing a great sorrow, since she knew by experience that it would do more harm than good. Yet she was reluctant to check with her powers, since it might reveal a hidden secret of the other. Spotting a figure huddled in the back, she approached gently, asking softly, "Are you alright?"

Sophia jerked her head up. Her dark, intelligent eyes looked thoughtfully at the girl approaching her a moment, and then they creased up at the edges as she broek into a happy - albeit tearful - smile. "Yes." She said, wiping her eyes. "Yes.... Thankyou. Thankyou for asking." She wiped up thelast of the milk with a crust of bread, and munched a little more contentedly on it.
"I'm Sophia Lillemor." She said after a pause, and she extended a hand, trembling slightly as she held back any further tears that might wish to meet the stuffy air of the cathedral. "I'm very pleased to meet you! I'm new here... I don't really know where to go. But this place looks as if it might put up with me for a while, at least."
Staring up at the vast domes and stretching stone arches that lavishly decorated the inside of the building, she suddenly felt her baby kick, and let out a tiny squeak. Blushing, she rubbed her stomach. "Sorry..." She said, hoping the creature inside her would settle down and go back to sleep.

Cien took the hand that was offered and smiled warmly. "Pleased to meet you, I'm Cien and this," she hels out the furball, "is Puru-puru." She lowered herself down next to Sophia and hugged her knees. Puru-puru crept up and settled on the top of her head contentedly. When Sophia suddenly started, Cien looked up with mild surprise. Puru-puru didn't budge. Glancing over at her, Cien gently asked, "How is it that you came to be here?"

Cody had finally made it to the Cathedral. He had come to respects to the gods of this land. Cody had no use for gods. He didn't believe in gods. Maybe his disbelief was the reason he had come to the Cathedral. He opened the huge oak doors letting a blast of bright sunlight enter the darkened Cathedral. He entered as he made sure his great-hammer was tightened on his back as not to alert or frighten anyone. He began to walk down the center aisle boldy, he heard some hushed whispers coming from two young girls in a pew towards the back. He made his to the front and sat down. He quickly noticed that because of his appearence that several of the priests and sisters took exception to him being there. He thought to himself, Go ahead kick me out. He quickly calmed himself as began to simply meditate.

"Well, I'm very pleased to meet you Cien! Wow, this guy's adorable!!" Sophia squealed, petting the strange little creature on the head. "Where on earth did you find him?" Smiling curiously at Puru-puru and moving over so there was more space for Cien to sit down, she almost didn't hear the girl's second question.
"I... It's a little complicated." She said. "Let's just say there were... there have been a lot of misunderstandings in my life. Please, let's leave it at that. There's too much else to tell. Besides, I'm much more interested tp hear about your life! Have you been in Calamere long?"

Cien laughed. "I didn't find Puru-puru, it found me. It like another part of me, actually. As for my history...there really isn't much to tell. I'm just of the wandering sort, that's all."
Out of the corner of her eye, Cien looked Sophia over. She really did seem unhappy, and with her slight action before, Cien could guess what had happened, so she held her tongue and hoped that Sophia would soon feel better. Her sadness seemed to seep into Cien's mind, making her feel more sensitve to the issue.

"The wandering sort?" Sophia's eyes sparked. "That sounds exciting!" She swivelled around a little too quickly, and flinched, before continuing to talk.... "But what about places to sleep? And how do you find the money to travel? What about sleeping... Have you ever had to sleep outside? It sounds a bit dangferous... But oh so exciting! Maybe one day I'll be able to -"
Sophia stopped before she said something she'd regret. She'd made her bed, she was just going to have to lie in it.
"So, you must have had a lot of adventures along the way... Anything much you could tell me about? I'd love to hear!

"Sleep outside?" Cien surpressed another laugh. "Actually, not really. I've trained myself to sleep only a bit everyday, so basically I just rest whenever I need it. As for danger, its not too bad as long as you don't go looking for it. Money can be earned when I need it, and between myself and a few other friends, we help each other out so there isn't anything to worry about."
It was not exactly true, as there was, to a normal person, plenty to worry about, but Cien just usually let it slip through her mind. It was in her blood, her father had also devoted as much of his mind to such matters as Cien herself did...which was almost as good as nothing.
