Many children scamper about the lower, flatter rooftops, but it is the thieves and assasins who roam the more tricky heights of the city. When keeping an eye on a target, sometimes the only way to avoid arousing suspicion is to keep far out of sight.

A large man stands atop one of the roof tops. His white blowing in the wind. The sun is setting casting shadows across the rooftops and across his young face. The scar along his left cheek looks deeper in the shadows. He removes his glove from his right hand and runs it down the scar. He remembers the night the assassins from Thern and Rael came to kill him. One got close enough to cut him with a knife down from right above his eyebrow to his cheek. Its a thin scar no horrible but it is definitely noticeable. His intense blue eyes flash across the rooftops. He can sense danger. Thieves. Even in a place as grand and peaceful as Calamere he can't escape from the violence. Just once, just once he would love to be free. Free from the blood ties of violence. He places his glove back on shifts in his heavy plate mail. It has become like a second skin to him, his plate mail. Passed down for generations and put through the flame again every generation and reembuded with strength and density. The armor is now nearly impervious. He stands waiting for the thieves to approach and by the movements and footsteps there are four of them. I guess this would be a good proving ground to become the bodyguard of the Princess. He wants to be close to the royalty. He needs to know that he is doing something right by seeking refuge here. The first thief grabs his wrist, Cody breaks the hold and backhands him sending him tumbling back and cracking his head on the hard roof top. The second thief pulls a small thin dagger and attempts to cut Cody. The dagger just scratches his armor. Cody laughs. "Your gonna need a bigger blade." Cody kicks the thief in the gut with his size 11 plate boots probably breaking a rib as the thief goes flying and down next to his partner. The last two are quite big and strong as they approach Cody takes a more serious battle stance. The one on his right grabs Cody's left arm before he could pull his great-hammer off his back. The thief on the right gets in two strong right hands connecting with Cody's cheek and lip. Blood begins to trickle down his chin. A grin crosses Cody's face as he can feel himself getting angry, he can feel that fury building. He quickly kicks the thief punching in the leg causing him to fall down onto the ground. He then turns to the thief on the left and connects with a smashing punch to his face sending off down onto his backside. he then quickly unties the leather strap holding his great-hammer and swings it over his and brings it down in front of him cracking the rooftop. He looks at the thieves standing in group away from him. "Whose next?" Cody taunts them. The group of thieves rushes. The next scene can only be described as a one-man show. The great-hammer always perseveres against bone and flesh. Cody begins to walk away looking for a guard to make sure that his unconsciscous friends are taken away and taken care of. He might just get that bodyguard position. "Now its time to head to the ball." Cody looks at the setting sun and the Castle in the background. "Time to meet the King."

Cien sat idly down with Puru-puru in her lap. Her eyes wandered over the people, while her mind carefully sifted out all unrelated thoughts.
The Golden Lands were no longer as peaceful as they had been when she first came, of that she was sure. But how strange all the events that had recently happened, firstly the arrival of the letter from the battlefield, news of the impending war, the battle with the undead and the suspicion of a growing danger...and finally the arrival of the danger itself and the death of someone Cien had considered as a most reliable ally. It was enough to drive her into action if anything else, but Cien's heart still rebelled against having anything at all to do with the war.
She leaned back and glanced up into the sky. Her eyeglass glistened in the sun and she sighed. Suddenly, she felt a strangely familiar presence. Snapping back to reality, she glanced around.

It had been a while since Darhin had been back in Calamere. He was now wandering the streets, happily staring at all the vendors and stalls. He suddenly caught sight of something or better said, someone. He made his way towards a back alley and found a large stack of crates that were eaisly climbed. He reached the top of the roof. And saw Cien sitting there, "Long time no see." He smiled walking over. "Its nice to see you again, Cien."

Puru-puru bounced up happily and Cien smiled. "It really has been a while, maybe not so much of time, but of the things that have happened. How are you doing? I would usually just peek into your mind to relieve you of having to tell me, but I suppose it would be better to hear it from you instead, what with your current state of mind and your mind-shield..."
It was not obvious, but Cien's attuned senses had picked up on something in Darhin's aura that made her fell slightly uneasy...

"I don't know...to tell you the truth I don't know whats worse. Finding out that Cody's dead or finding out my brother is here in the Golden Lands and is out to kill me." He sighed sitting down on the ground, "Its been a rough couple of weeks."

Cien lifted an eyebrow. "Your brother? From Thern?"
She glanced at Darhin. It was not strange that he was feeling depressed about something like that, but it did not explain the aura at all. What ever could it be...?
Clearing her throat, she turned to Darhin. "Have you...did you by any chance pick up something...unusal recently?"

Something unsusal? Then he suddenly remembered, his Amulet. The one he was wearing around his neck...his hand twitched as if to go to it, but he stopped. Holding it back. He looked back at her, wondering if he should tell her. She was a thought-mage right? Then maybe she already knows how to make a mind-shield. He asked her, making his tone sound like he ws simply curious. Still wondering what to do.

"A mind-shield? I suppose it would depend on what exactly you would like..." she tapped her cheek with her finger, "well, firstly there is a shield like the one you employ, to keep normal thought mages out of your mind...that one requires a bit of discipline and practise, and is not too strong since it can be broken by those with a stronger flow of thought. Then there is another type which is to keep other people's thoughts out of your mind. This one is usually done by thought mages themselves, as other thoughts flow freely into our minds due to our powers. But I do not exactly know what it is that you want to find out...perhaps you can elaborate?"

"What I'm wondering is, this mind-shield that thought-mages use. Are you good at this? How many thought mages can inflitrate your mind?" He had to know this if he was going to tell her of the Amulet. He trusted her enough to know she wouldn't say anything, but her mind was another matter.

Her eyes slid shut and Cien smiled cynically, as if remembering something. "How many?" she said in a low voice, "that is a good question. I'd like to know that myself. As it is, I've had a good deal more experience harming other thought mages with my mind shield than they have breaking through it. But if you have to know-" she exhaled deeply, "...none."

Darhin smiled, he was hoping for that sort of answer, he reached into his tunic and pulled out the Amulet. The second time he has revealed it to anyone. Truly it was an amazing sight, with a beautiful gem engraved in the middle, and a silver chain. He showed it to her, "I found this in Elidwen, it belonged to a merchant there, who did not understand the power of the item he possessed. A man, a thought-mage like yourself, came and stole it. He was sent by Thern, who already knew of the Amulet's whereabouts. It is apparently a very powerful artifact. I don't know the true length to its powers. But I do know when you wear it you can not be hurt, your wounds automatically heals, I also know that it allows its wearer to preform sorcery even if they are not a sorcerer."

Cien's eyes widened, but she kept her distance. Having dabbled in more than a few magic-based artifacts, she had grown an extraordinarily sensitive nature and was usually unable to get close to powerful objects without feeling a slight discomfort.
"That is...truly amazing. I don't think I have ever seen any such amulet, not in any of my travels or studies." Something clicked into her mind. If she could sense the aura of the amulet with her powers completely sealed, no doubt the thought-mage who was looking for the amulet would have either already or almost sensed its whereabouts...
"Darhin, you do happen to know that you are in a considerable amount of danger...do you not?"

He looked at her in confusion, how was that? "You don't have to worry about the thought-mage he's dead. The only other person who knows about the Amulet, is Yaridon. But he's far away from here." Unbenowst to him, Yaridon was in fact in the Castle, and could sense the presense of the Amulet as it were right now.

Cien hugged her knees in silence. Puru-puru, sensing that something was wrong with it's master bounced up onto Cien's head and made small "Puu~"s. Cien sighed. "It is just a feeling, is all. But I think you should be on your guard...the air smells undoubtedly foul today..."

"I'll keep that in mind." He said, smiling, "Thank you again." He stood up, strecthing his legs. As he looked down on the city below. "Hey do you want to get something to eat? I'm starved." He aked.

"Alright, I think I know of a couple of people. Come on, I'll met you down on the streets." He walked over to the edge of the building, where he saw those stacks of crates. He nimbly climbed down, reaching the ground in a matter of moments. He smiled as he looked back up at Cien.
