Magic is widely used in the Golden Lands. It runs through every stream, is threaded through every last leaf, and also runs in the veins of some humans.
Anyone can use magic, and you decide just how gifted your character is - the only thing you cannot do it have a character who is highly gifted at both magic and at physical work, such a riding/fencing. This is forbidden.
Your character can have one of four forms of magic:
1) Thought-magic: This would be known today as psychic abilities. A person wielding this type of magic is known as a Thought-Mage in the Golden Lands. While perhaps the most powerful of all the mages, they can use telepathy (the ability to read peoples' thoughts) and telekinesis (the ability to move things with your mind).
2) Sorcery: This form of magic is perfromed using ancient words of power that, once learnt, can allow a Sorceror or Sorceress to do almost anything - except to invade a person's mind. A staff or wand can be used to amplify a Sorceror's power. But bear in mind, once such a weapon is chosen, should you lose it it cannot be replaced.
3) Alchemy: When I say alchemy, I mean the use of potions and long-forgotten herbs and medicines. Firstly and formostly healers, alchemists are most often found working as priests. Be it the deadliest poison or the most powerful healing-potion, for matters of life and death these are the people to go to.
4) Elemental: An Elemental is the rarest of all magic-users. Born with an affiliation to one of the four elements - earth, fire, water, or wind - they have almost utter control over it. However, they often lead the unhappiest lives, having to hide their powers from all. For they are the most mistrusted of all people, with other humans fearing and despising their powers. NOTE: Should you wish your character to be an elementer you must PM the King with a request for such, so as there are not too many of this type wandering around - we want to keep these people rare. Please also note that elementals are no more powerful than the next magic-user.
Bear in mind that each magic has its strangths and weaknesses against each other. For example, a Sorceror can use fire water and earth, but even if he fights a fire-elemental with water, the strength of fire the elemental uses will be far greater than the water he uses. However, a Sorceror can also construct shields, use curses, and control metal, and so makes up for this here. Bear in mind these things should you ever have to fight with your magic.
