Do you have to be in the army to fight in a battle or can anyone join?

In this section, anyone can fight! There's a specific area for Army-members in the Castle Grounds, but these threads are open to anyone.
Sorry, I meant to make an "information" thread yesterday, but I didn't have enough time and only got around to actually making the boards!
