Nobody made a thread for this, so I decided too ^^;
This thread is for posting any hints and tips you have towards drawing manga, or just drawing in general. Share your knowledge :3
I have some of my own knowledge to share;
Firstly, the more art, manga and anime you see, the more you pick up on details. You get a sense of where everything should go and you can look out for interesting styles and expressions.
(Looking around at wildlife, plants, people etc also helps)
I noticed that most 'How to draw manga' books are somewhat ridiculous, they tell you everything from what angle you should hold your pencil at to the type of pencil you should use, but they don't teach you any techniques or expressions, anatomy or shading skills. These books cost about £20 each. However, last weekend I found a fantastic manga-drawing book by the creator of 'Ninja High School'. (which I admit I have heard about but never seen and I don't really intend to see it either ^^!) The book was good to read as well as to study from, it was about 200 pages long and showed anatomy, expressions, poses, how to draw faces and bodies, how to submit your work to publishers, backgrounds, everything. The best part was that the book only cost me £3 from the banana bookshop :3
Lastly, try drawing on a PaintChat board. They are great fun and other people can help you with your art, red lining problem areas and such. You can share your techniques with your friends and chat while you do so. They are also fantastic for practising expressions and converying meanings, plus, the chats and storyboards you make up with your friends are very inspiring.
(the only downfall is that it's hard to draw on a computer without a pen tablet - I recommend Wacom - Graphix tablets for this)
My favourite PChat board - www.bellpipi.com:49279/entrance_normal.html (be warned that people aren't always online, and if you don't get the hang of the board at first, work at it, once you've familiarised yourself with various settings and colours it becomes second nature )
Hope that helps :3
