((ooc: after a long debate Karei has deciding to join the ball. this should be...entertaining. -cough-)) Kar bit her lip hesittly, her calloused hand hovering of the handle of the door. Her sea-blue gaze lingered on the soft blue-green cloth that decorated her arm and the white lace that added onto it. She was beginning to wonder why she had come, after hearing whispers about this ball on the streets. At first she was going to ignore it, but after some thoughts she decided a night out would be good for her.
Pushing down on the handle she carefully pulled the door open, gaze lifting up to the occupents of the grand room. Her thick, ebony hair was pulled back into a soft bun, one thick lock curling down by her face. She had not painted her lips or powdered her cheeks, though she had of course made sure to wipe off any dirt or mud. Adorning her frame was a simple off-shoulder dress, a color that matched her eyes. It wasn't as grand or elegant as the other dreses of the ladies in the ballroom, but it was a dress that she could afford. The dress was tight at her bossom and stomach, though not very tight, and then loosened from her waist down and went straight down to the ground, trimming against the floor. Karei glanced around again, scanning the room and the people curiously. She then moved in further more and rested herself away from the dancers. ((ooc: dress design done by Tana. I don't claim it. Not mine, etc.))

Darhin heard the door open, and turned around to see who had come. And to his releif he saw Karei suddenly walk out onto the floor, "Karei! I'm glad..." he stopped in mid sentence, the words practically dying in his mouth. She was beautiful, wearing an dress that drapped over her frame, it was not fancy, nor was it overly too plain, it suited her perfectly, and he fought frantically not to blush, "Umm, you look very... nice," he said wondering if he sounded foolish, the next words were out of his mouth before he could stop them, "would you like to dance?"

Hearing her name, she looked up and to ehr surprise saw Darhin. She smiled slightly, tilting her head to one side with curiousity as he approached. ''Um...thanks...'' She said, slightly taken aback by the compliment. She was barely able to finish her gratitude when he offered to dance. Oh. She thought dumbfoundly. How could she forget about dancing at a ball? Karei had only danced when she was a child...back when she and her friends used to pretend to attend balls and the such. ''I...yea, sure.'' She said finally, stepping forward slightly. I'll just follow his lead.. She thought sheepishly, her canine pushing down on the corner of her bottom lip.

Darhin smiled encouragingly, he could see she was a bit uncomfortable, he was too. He hadn't danced in a long time, but as he put on hand on her waist, and grasped the other, he found that the steps came back naturally to him. He stepped lightly, going through the motions in his mind, and Karei copied him and followed, dancing very well actually. He hadn't had this much fun in a long time, he was really glad to have come to the ball.

Karei was a bit surprised that she hadn't tripped or something. With horses and on the battle field she was very coordinated...dancing...not so much. Keeping one hand with his, and the other on his shoulder, she followed his steps carefully. ''Where'd ya learn to dance? I never pictured you as the dancing type.'' She said with a slight smirk, incling her head to one side.

He smiled, "I learned to dance a long...long time ago. I'm amazed that I still remember the steps." He laughed, that wasn't exactly true, there had been a couple of times that he had accidently stepped in the wrong place, and had to quickly correct himself before something embarassing happened, like him tripping and falling into her or someting of the sort. But so far nothing like that happened, which he was grateful for.
"What about you? Is this your first time dancing?" He asked as he took another step, leaning to the side slightly, "Because if it is your doing a great job, your very good at it."

Karei chuckled, still following his steps carefully. ''Just when I was a child, before I was taken in by the farmer. My friends and I used to pretend to be Lords and Ladies attending the grand ball or something. One of my friends, I remember, was the daughter of a noble so we learned it from her.'' She explained with another light chuckle. The memory was so vague. She couldn't remember any of their names and could barely remember their faces. It was amazing that she remembered a couple of the steps, but was still oblivious to the few mistakes that he - and that she - made.

He laughed, "It sounded like you had some interesting friends." he tried to think back to any of the friends he use to have. He couldn't think of anyone, every time he tried to think up of a good memory of a person he knew, a second later he would remember their enraged face in the mob that chased him out of town. He realized for the first time how alone he was before he met Karei, Cody and Cien. He was very grateful, and he couldn't help but smile the entire dance.

''To be honest I can barely remember them. I can't think of any of their names.'' She replied with a slight smirk. Karei continued to move with him quietly, her eyes often straying to the other dancers, then back to him. ''What're you smiling about?'' She asked with a smirk.

He looked into her eyes, "I'm just really enjoying myself, being here with you." his smile got wider as he swayed to and fro silently following the steps in the far corner of his mind. As distant as they were, from a past life, something that has better be left forgotten, afterall this one seemed to be a lot better.

Karei smiled lightly, watching him. ''Heh, I'm kinda glad I came.'' She replied, a single chuckle escaping. ''So how did you come to be here, stable boy?'' Kar asked after a moment, tilting her head to the side as curiousity overtook her expressions.

He laughed, as he saw the curiousity come onto her face as she tilted her head again, "Actually, I was advited to come by a friend of mine, only I don't see her. Maybe I'll have a chance to speak to her later." They were quite again for some time, as they did the last bit of the dance, when they stopped he asked, "Do you want to go outside a bit? I think we should get some fresh air, don't you?"

''Yea, some fresh air sounds nice.'' Karei replied with s soft smile. She lightly brushed the lock of hair from her eyes, only to find it back in place, as she glanced around at the occupents again. She had to admit, she wasn't comfortable surrounded by so many strange people who were obviously higher up than she was. And ti seemed almost every one of them liked to show off their wealth, too. Not to mention just being indoors made her a bit uneasy. asically, fresh air sounded very nice.

"Do you want to go to the Gardens? I hear that the King has a great, beautiful gardens, with exotic plants and trees. I think you'll like it there." He said. Looking out to the corridor that would lead them outside.
((Wanna continue this somewhere else?))

((ooc: sure >_>)) ''Ok. Gardens it is.'' Karei said with a slight nod. She was already wondering what kind of exotic plants there would be. She knew of pretty much all the native plants and was curious as to what kinds were outside these lands. Kar decided to let him led the way down the corridor, seeing as how she had no clue which one lead where.

They walked back in, and Darhin watched as everyone seemed to talk quietly amongst themselves, oblivious to their dissapearance and then reappearance, everyone was caught up in their own seperate conversations. He didn't mind though, just glad to have Karei as company. His eyes glanced over the seats, and found two empty spots on a table nearby. He walked over to it and sat down. Waiting for Karei to follow.

Karei looked around the ball, then noticed Darhin had moved to a seat. She smiled slightly and took the seat next to him. She looked over the long table and blinked n surprise at the amount of food. ''Wow...there's enough food here to feed every town in the kingdom.'' She murmered under her breath, smirking slightly.

"He's the king, when he has a ball he must make a show out of it. That's what all nobles do, its all just one big politicial ploy. Just pick what looks best." He had already taken out a plate, and was took a small roll, a peice of stake, some mass potatos and a cup of delicious wine. As he looked back at the table he noticed there was still a lot that he had left untouched, he would start with this and if he was still hungry take some more.

''You seem to know quite a bit about this for a stable boy.'' Karei commented with a smirk, arching a brow at him as she took some food to her plate, nothing much thogh.

"Theres a lot about me you don't know" He laughed, saying it in a joking tone, but meaning it full heartedly. He slowly began to eat the food, tasting the sweet and lush flavors of rich food, ones he had not tasted in a long time. He smiled contentedly as he finished off the last of the food.
