Karei chuckled softly, reaching up and rubbing Arai's mane gently. ''I'm very glad you came with me, big boy. I'd hate to walk over this plain alone.'' She said with a light laugh. ''Not to mention it'd be very hard to battle without him. He's amazing on the battle field...'' She added, a bit of admiration and respect in her voice now.

Cody raised his eybrow, cursious at the mention of battle. "Do tell me what combat have you seen? An interesting stories to share?" He loved to talk about combat with others it had been a long time since he had met someone who had been in battle.

''Nothing very interesting. Our battles have been mostly against bandits and theieves. I have only faced one army, not alone of course, when Arai had just begun to be ridden.'' Karei replied with a slight smile, burshing throuhg Arai's mane and rubbing his neck soothingly. The bay stallion apparently enjoyed the attention, as his head began to slowly drop and his eyes were barely open.

Cody watched the great beast slowly go to sleep. He watched as the fire began to flicker to a light burn. His blue eyes wandered as he looked into the sky, the stars were bright. "My ancestors believed that when a Colossus died they became a star to watch over the rest of the tribe. I didn't believe it when I was little, but now that I am the last one, it is comforting to believe that they are still there watching over me."

Karei glanced up at the stars. She smiled gently, her gaze softening. ''I have heard stories like that, too. But I don't beleive it. I don't believe any of the stories, really. Whatever happsn to those who die is only known to them. Most stories are there to just comfort us and give us hope. To make death less frightening, as the old man told me.'' She sat down once Arai was asleep, a soft chuckle escaping her. Kar had always called the farmer who raised her 'old man', as he was very old. At least in his forties whe she had left. ''And he never did seem scared. Whenever I asked him if he was he said I should worry about fear of death when my time was near.''

Cody grinned it had been along time since he had a true intelligent conversation. "Its not that I afraid of death it is a part of life. We Colossus welcome it. We usually grow to be ten thousand years old that is if we are healthy and don't die in battle." He chuckles. "Tell me what was life like was your childhood like?"

Karei blinked in surprise and disbelief of the life span he said a Colossus had. That was just less than one hundred times the years life span a healthy human had. She blinked again, just now able to register the question he asked. ''I kind of had two childhoods...up until I was eight I had lived with my parents. We were fairly poor and my parents had planned to marry me off to a Lord or someone else with money. They died when I was eight and a farmer adopted me. He taught me much of what I know now.'' She explained, watching Arai as he slep peacefully.

Cody's smile faded as she told her story. "My sympathy goes out to you, I know it isn't easy growning up without a mother and father. I lost both of mine at the age of ten, and then my brother at fourteen. Loss is never easy. Sometimes you just grow stronger though because of it."

Karei looked over at her, her smile returning. She shook her head slightly. ''I do not ask for your sympathy, please do not give it. My parents never treated me very well, so the loss did not have a very large effect on me. I think it was worse when the old man died.'' She replied, reaching up with one hand and brushing her hair back from her face.

Cody grinned his as he watched her brush her long black hair from her face. "Then I retract my sympathy." The crickets began to play in the plains as the wind blew through the tall grass. "So Karie what are some of your dreams? What do you hope to accomplish in this world?" His eyes were filled with the light of the dying fire.

''All I wish to do is live my life freely. Under no reign of King or Lord and controled by no one. Basically, I think I have accomplished what I wish.'' She responded, a smile returning to her features. ''And what about you? What to you wish to accomplish?''

Cody look suprised that the question came back to him. He settled down letting his expression calm. He brushed his hair out of his eyes as he let his eyes wander over the sky. "I hope one day to settle down and let my tribes blood to run through my children. Then I hope to return to my homeland and reclaim it. It easy though, I don't think I have much hope of it though." He looks grimly at the fire. "Being a Colossus usually puts people off. They are afraid of me. Because of my strange tattoos and my scars women are usually put off. I just want peace. To begin again. I guess thats it to start all over."

Karei watched him curiously, head tilted to one side. ''We can never start over. All we can do is keep moving foreward.'' She replied quietly, leaning forward with her arms resting in her lap. ''The sun is always born from the eastern orizon, and it always dies in the west. Not once has the sun ever turned back to begin again.'' Kar murmered quietly. Arai had woken up, yawning slightly, then lowered his head to graze.

Cody let a smile cross his face. He hadn't been to hopeful lately. "Your right. Indeed you are right. Then going forward it is. I just must seize the day for time is prescious. Nobody lives forever."

''That is true.'' Karei replied with another smile. She looked over at Arai, watching him graze. ''It is strange...humans live, but we always want more. Happiness, a dream of some sort. And all creatures and beasts want is to live, but they seem very content as it is. When we care for them, they become even happier because they feel protected and need not worry about things they need to survive....all they as for is what they need. Why is it we still want more?'' Karei stopped, then let out a soft laugh. ''I'm sorry, I'm just thinking out loud.''

"They understand that we are on a plain above them. I am not saying we are superior then they mankind has indeed stooped to animal like levels. Animals, all of nature lives and breathes the life we live. They were created long ago by the gods for us. Mankind indeed is special, my own human blood runs thin as I am something of a crossbreed of nature and mankind." Cody watched her as she petted Arai.

''Yes, they were made for us. The old man told me that humans had lost their way...that hese dark times are mostly because of our ignorance. Most do believe that they can take whatever the want from the Mother without giving back. The farmer told me that animals are trying to guide us...trying to tell us that.'' She smiled, lightly kissing Arai's muzzle when he turned his head to her. ''I think Arai continues to tell me something each day. He never shuts up.'' Karei laughed as he nudged her shoulder. ''Our communication is very different from yours. The way he looks at me, the way he moves, they times he will touch me...everything is like a word but in a different form.''

Cody ran his hands through the soft dirt, before clutching a small handful and letting it run throug his fingers. "The spirits dance around this place, Karei. Especially around you and Arai." He let his eyes gaze into hers. "You have a great destiny, something that maybe your not even aware of."

''A great destiny?'' Karei echoed, looking back at Arai. A quiet chuckle slipped her vocals. ''No, I am far from away of that. I am nothing but a simple woman, just trying to go through life. I only fight when I have to...not for kings, not for Lords. I con't care what my future holds, not very much.'' She looked back over at him, head tilted to one side. ''And what of you? As the last Colossus you must have some form of great destiny.''

"Do not doubt the Mother she believes you have great things ahead of you and not one of humble porpotions. Me...I don't know what the future holds for me. The spirits remain silent. I think it may be better that way." His eyes seemed distant as he stared out into the darkned plains.
