By the time the man had fallen, she had dismounted Arai to go and help Darhin finish it. But she didn't expect Darhin to attack her. She quickly took up her swords in a defensive position, making an 'X' with them. She felt his blade ram against her, just in the middle. She squeezed Hai and Hei against his, then twisted, knocking his blade out of his hands. She said nothing as she skidded past him, flipping her sword down toward the man's neck. She closed her eyes as she did so, her mind focusing on a certain memory to block the man's control from her mind, and felt the blade cut through flesh. She hesitated a moment before falling back into a sitting position, trying to catch her breath quickly. She turned to see what Darhin was doing, hoping that the telekinis was gone since the man was, hopefully, dead. She looked at the wound in his neck, Hai still standing through it, and swallowed. That's fatal...he has to be dead now...

Darhin suddenly regained full use of his body, as if the spell that was over him suddenly lifted. Getting up he picked up his fallen sword and walked over to Karei. She heard his approach and steadied herself as if she expected him to attack, to make it obvious he sheathed his weapon and said, "I'm sorry, never wanted to do that, I just couldn't stop myself." He saw the forgiven look on her face and decided to move to the corpse of the man. Searchig through his pockets he found a handful of coins, and what looked like a few scrolls, which he left where they were, and, most importantly, a letter. Taking it out he read:
To Master Validisn, the leader of the Mind-Mages of the Thernian Army, with regards from Yaridon, head wizzard and councilor of his majesty king of Thern...
Darhin did not read any more his eyes wide, and hands shaking, Yaridon, the wizard who taught him the skills of magic, the wizard who had known of his skills and kept them a secret. The wizard who had been his friend until the night his secret was revealed and he had to leave his home in disgrace....
He was sickened enough, and wished to read no more, but he had to.
It is within the kingdom's best wishes, after the Merge of the countries of Thern and Rael that a war against the Golden Lands ruled underneath King Thedroil proceed without delay. In order to succed this quest, we require from you to sneak into enemy territory and steal a item called the Amulet of Daniecis, which is being held by a merchant in the town fo Elidwen. It is in the king's best interest for this artifact ot be taken and delievered back to his majesty, the moment the said item is in your possession. The Amulet is a powerful magical item, one that heal any persons wrounds and give them socerous's abilities. With the Amulet in Thern's possession the final stages of the king's plan will be complete.
After reading this, Darhin crumbled up the letter, and took the Amulet out of his pocket. Now knowing of the necklace's true power he thought it was unwise to leave it in the hands of a merchant, the same merchant that Thern and Rael already know use to have it. But what else could be done, he had given his word that he would retrieve it and give it back. It would be considered theft to do otherwise, and then the government in Elidwen would confiscate it anyways.
"Lets go, we need to head back." He said, his mind still filled with thoughts of the letter.

Karei slowly stood up, gripping Arai's mane tightly. She leaned against the beast and sheathed ehr swords. ''Wha did...the letter...say?'' She asked, breathless but refused to stutter or show any more sign of weakness. As they began to head back she continued to hold onto rai for support, partly angry at herself for being so reckless, partly confused.

"It was a commison by the man's authority to find and take the Amulet." All very true, he just didn't tell her that the man who wrote the letter was he ex-teacher. "We should get back and find the shopkeeper, a days wroth of working and finding the stolen properity is probably enough for five inns worth!" He laughed, already trying to shake away the unnerving effects of his past suddenly springing up on him out of nowhere.
It wasn't working.

Karei blinked at him and tilted ehr head to one side. He's acting strange... Seh thought, frowning. It seemed the battle had an effect on him...o the letter did....either way, she didn't like it. Kar clung on to Arai as they walked, and soon enough they reached the shop. She waited outside while Darhin went in to return the amulet and get their money. Or, at least that's what she assumed he would do.

Darhin walked up to the man, who was now tending the shop, he looked at the man, who seemed shocked to see him there, almost as if he expected them to have failed. Well, that was certainly heart warming! His hand went into is pocket and pulled out the Amulet giving it to him, "There it is, we got it back for you." "So you did, so you did." He muttered, he then opened a drawer and pulled out a few handful of coins, and passed them to Darhin, "this would be your payment for working for me, and this," He said lifting up the Amulet and setting it down on the pile, "Will be your reward for returning my property." Darhin stared at him dumfounded, "But I thought you said..." The man raised his hand, silencing him, as he then pushed the pile closer to him. "Take it, that crowd helped me more then I ever dreamed it would, it has paid for that trinket's price threefold. Besides, its nothing more then a pretty jeweled necklace." Darhin did his best not to look amazed at that, he didn't know, he didn't know that the Amulet was enchanted. Looking at the man's stubborn face he took all of it, coins and Amulet, and walked out to where Karei stood. When seeing her he said, "So which inn you want to stay at? Pick whatever one you want." He said as he put his hand in his pocket, fingering the Amulet...what was he going to do with it...give it to the king, perhaps. He had to think about it...

Karei smiled warily. ''The closest one...that isn't the bar...I'm too tired to care rght now.'' She said with a soft chuckle. She noticed he seemed a bit distant and frowned. Kar gripped Arai's whiterhs and quickly mounted him, breathing in and then sighing heavily as she settled on his sway. Kar leaned forward against his neck. ''Will you lead the way Darhin?'' She asked, looking over at him.

"Sure" He muttered, his mind still on the Amulet in his pocket. And what he shoud do with it...for now he would just hold onto it, perhaps give it to the king whenever chance he could. As he continued wandering through the streets he suddenly realized where he was and snapped out of his thoughts looking around he saw a building over by the side. "Here, lets check that place out." He walked through the door, giving Karei time to tie her stallion outside and follow him through.

Karei quickly tied up Arai and then patted his neck softly. 'After we find an inn we'll need a stable to board him in.'' She said as she followed him into the inn.

It was a large roomy inn, with many different floors. Walking up to the desk he said, "One room please, were only staying for a night." The man nodded as he took their coins, and then handed him a key. "The room down the hallway leads to the feast hall, where meals will be served to the quests, behind the inn is the stables if you require use of them, payment for the services cost extra." Darhin reached into his back pocket and pushed the extra coins on the counter the man took them, "Have a nice day sir and ma'am. "
Turning back to Karei, he said, "Go ahead and put Arai into the stables, I'll go up and check our rooms," He said as he walked up the stairs, heading toward their rooms.

Karei nodded and walked out to Arai. She led him out to the stables and untacked her horse. Holding the bags over her her shoulders, she fed him a few carrots and apples, then let the stable hands take him to a stall. Soon enough, Kar had returned to the inn and headed up to their room. She opened the door and set the bags down, looking around curiously. ''It looks nice...nicest inn I stayed at.'' She said with a soft smile.

Darhin nodded, he was thinking the very same thing before she entered, not that he was going to admit it, his boss would be furious if he said that, probably go on a rant about how he should have more respect for the Silver Drake, and all it has done for him.
But still...it was hard not to like this place.
There were two soft, comfortably looking beds pressed against the back wall. Which was painted in dak, impressive colors that gave the room a soothing feeling when added with the dim light that came from the oil lamp on the desk in the corner. Which on it had some scrolls of paper if one felt like writing a quick letter. A window hung above it, giving a beautiful view of the town below.
However he barely noticed any of this, too tired from today's activities. He walked over to the bed and collapsed onto it. It was only a matter of minutes before he fell asleep.

Karei nodded as she sat down on the other bed. She winced, rubbing her side gently. Reaching over, she gabbed one of her bags, where the herbs and bandages were. Looking over at Darhin, she noticed he was already asleep. Smiling slightly, she lifted the edges of her shirt, just enough to get a good view of her wound. Kar tended to it quickly then put her herbs and bandages away. With an exhausted sigh she fell back against the pillows and shifted so that she was curled up under the covers. Soon enough she was asleep.

When Darhin woke up he saw that Karei was still fast asleep, smiling he stood up, a bit warily, but still quite firm, he walked over to the window, looking out over the town. Out of his back pocket he fished out the Amulet, looking it over, tracing his finger along the gem in the middle. He pulled it up over his head, and the moment he did all his soreness vanished. And the wound on the side of his face healed. Smooth and normal. Looking back over at Karei, he saw that she was still asleep, he took one last glance at the window, overlooking the town. Really, from this veiw it wasn't so bad. He would miss it. Walking over to the desk he sat down and quickly wrote a farewell letter to Karei, explaining why he had to leave early. Packing up his things he left, walking out of the inn, and through the town's limits. Out of sight before even the first of the townspeople were awake.

Karei awoke not long after. She climbed out of the bed and blinked at the letter curiously. A sigh passed through her lips as she gathered her things and headed out to fetch Arai. She fed him, then saddled him up and went to continue on her way.

"Alright, lets get started." Kar blinked, hearing Darhin. She had apparently gotten lost in her own thoughts while they walked. ''Oh, alright.'' She said, a slight smile spreading over her features. She turned, glancing around to see that they were alone in the alleyway, and then looked back at him with a partial smirk. ''Well, start teaching.''

Darhin sat down on the ground, "Alright, lets get started. You already know how to clear your mind right? That concentrating on one thing is basically a tool. To use to keep your mind clear. By using that your thoughts and memories are buried, and a thought-mage can't find them by simple entering your mind. He will have to look for them. When he does that, a mind barrier blocks that, and stops him from searching. Do you got all that?" He asked. Remembering his lessons from Yaridon, it was harder to teach then he thought...
((ooc-just so you don't think I'm making all this up because I want to I actually got the process from a book I read, I just treaked it a bit...))

((lol. I'm not telling. Making you guess is to much fun.))
He smiled, glad she was learning so quickly, "But the process of making a mind barrier is a tricky one, though it does not require magic. Theirs a part of your mind, your mentality, that stores all your thoughts and memories. What you must do is visualize some sort of wall around it. And if you have seen the wall before, it makes it even stronger, because its more realistic. I imagine mine as a glacier since I work with ice so much. But the shield could be anything you want. When someone tries to probe your mind, cracks will form along that barrier, you have to constantly strengthen it in order for it to stand. So it requires a bit of meditation." He said frowning as he looked up at the sky, already a few hours had pasted...time seemed to be moving quickly today.

((ooc: meanie xP I can't think of any other than that book...I remember a movie with the same method...thing....>_>)) Kar blinked, letting the information soak in. After a wuick moment she noded to let him know she understood. She already knew which wall she was going to picture: the one from her room when she lived in the farm. Karei remembered staring at that wall everynight before she fell asleep and the image never really left her head. ''Alright.'' She blinked again, noticing he was looking at the sky and she just realized how much time had passed, too. ''Wow...I never noticed how late it got.'' She commented, a chuckle escaping.
