The fields

He laughed as he pulled out two loafs of bread and a few rabbit legs, (skinned off and ready to eat) He handed a couple to her and sat down to eat. As he did he answered her question, "Yeah I did say that at the ball didn't I? Well looks like I got my wish." At the thought of the ball he remembered what else happened there and quickly hid a blush. He still felt the same way as he did before. Only he wasn't going to tell her that.

Karei grinned at the food, taking it and beginning to eat.
''Why don't you stick around for a while? I'm sure Arai wants a play-buddy too and Harind seems to get along with him.''
She said, glancing over her shoulder at the horses (just in time to miss the blush). She nibbled at the bread, eyes scanning the old barn carefully.
''I can't believe this is still standing...''
She murmered to herself, taking another bite from the rabbit as she looked around the barn.

"What do you mean? Have you been here before?" He asked when he heard her last statement. He had thought that she had, mostly because of the way she looked at the place with solemn eyes, or the fact that she seemed to know her way around here.

Kar swallowed a bit too quickly and coughed a bit. I didn't mean to say that out loud. She thought, mentally scolding herself.
''Well...yea...remember when I told you about the farmer who took me in? This was his farm...''
She replied, her tone quiet now.
''Just before he died he told me to leave. And he also said I had a desicision to make....''
Her voice trailed off and she shook her head a bit.
''That's in the past, doesn't matter right now.''
She said quickly, once more beginning to eat.

He wanted her to explain further, but he could tell that she didn't want to talk about it. So he let it drop for now, but was planning on asking more later. Instead he looked back at the barn, looking at the walls that were old and now wearing down, "It must have been quite a sight when it was still new." He said to himself. Looking at the paint that was smoothly coated over the walls as if it was done with much practice and patientce with an equal love for the barn the painter was in.

[Karei]

''It was the most beautiful place in the world.''
Karei said softly as she finished her meal.
''I used to climb up to the roof and stare at the stars all night and listen to the horses and other animals in the pasture.''
Once more she heard her voice trail off near the end. She was quiet for a moment, then looked over at him.
''You want to go see?''
She asked with a slight smile, dusting herself off as she stood up.

"Up on the roof?" he asked, "Sure, I'd love to." he stood up too. Petting Harind, to reasure him that he would be back. And turned back to Karei. He looked once more at his surroundings, a bit unsure of where to go next, but decided just to follow Karei, after all this was once her home.

[Karei]

Karei nodded and walked outside. She turned to the wall by the barn entrance and saw the ladded. She quickly checked to make sure it was steady and began to carefully climb upwards. She hopped up on the roof and moved back some to give him room to get up. While she waited she looked around the fields and pastures, her eyes having a distant look to them.

Darhin followed her up the ladder, sitting besides her. It was already dark out but by the star's light he could make out her features perfectly. There was a soft breeze and her hair blew back and forth in it. Realizing he was staring he quickly turned his attention back towards the pastures that she was staring at. He stole a quick glance at her and saw that her eyes were distant so he asked, "Is something wrong Karei?" He frowned, she was acting sort of strange, but he supposed it was natural, he would have acted the same way if he stumbled onto his home in Thern. He decided to be quiet and just let her think.

[Karei]

Karei blinked, drawing her attentin back to him. She smiled slightly and shook her head.
''just...remembering.''
She said, looking over the area again.
''I used to take the old mare out and just run all around these fields. The old man would get so mad and work me for the whole day.''
She chuckled softly, brushing her hair back from her eyes.
''It was so hard to leave, but I know that he was only looking out for me. He didn't want me to see him die like I did my parents.''
She said quietly, tilting her head back to look at the stars. as always the sky was so clear and the stars made it seem brighter. She saw a bright crescent moon in the sky and smiled partly.

"Your parents died?" Darhin asked, startled, "I'm so sorry to hear that. Do you miss them?" He asked as he looked into her eyes. She seemed so strong, she never even let on that her parents were dead, or if she was even saddened by it.

[Karei]

Karei blinked in surprise, looking at him.
''Yea, they died when I was eight.''
She said quietly.
''It's not so bad...if they were still alive I'd have probably been married off to some lord or something.''
Kar added with a half smile. She looked back at him. curiously.

"A lord?" He felt a shiver run up his spine. He was a lord by birthright. Though here he was nothing, back in Thern he had a title and a name, one that was stripped away from him. If things had been different Karei would have been sitting besides a lord right now...but then again if things had been different they would not be friends but instead enemeis. Because their nations were pited against each other. He knew he rather have his titles stripped away from him then lose his friendship with her. He smiled at that thought and looked up into the sky.

[Karei]

Karei nodded and sighed.
''I loved my parents, and I mourned them...but a part of me felt a bit...glad at their death.''
She winced a bit when she said it and bit down on her lip.
''I feel horrible about it...I know I should feel more sorrow at their loss.''

"That's not your fault Karei," He said as he laid a reassuring hand on her shoulder, "From the sound of it, your parents wanted the best for you, but just pushed you to hard. They had high expectations of you, and when you didn't want to met them they got mad at you. It must have been tough, and I'm sorry that you weren't as close to your parents as you would have liked. But they shouldn't have tried to force you to marry a lord...not that you couldn't!...they should have let you marry who you wanted to." He said hoping to comfort her.

[Karei]

Karei blinked in surprise. She smiled slightly, feeling a blush creep over her cheeks.
''Thanks. That helps a lot.''
Kar replied, reaching up and lightly laying her hand on his (the one on her shoulder) to let him know she did appreciate it.

It almost felt as if a fire started spreading on his hand where she touched it, he knew she didn't mean it as anything, just to show her appreciation but he felt himself blush anyways. And as he looked over at her eyes, he couldn't stop himself. He bent over and brushed his lips over hers, but jumped back immediately afterwards. Blushing like crazy and not looking into her eyes.

[Karei]

Karei felt herself blush deeply when she felt his lips brush against hers. She hesitantly moved over, reaching up and laying her hand against his cheek so that she could turn his head to face her. She lightly pressed her lips against his, pulling away after a second.

He stared at her for a moment, still feeling the tingling on his mouth. Had she just? She did. He looked back over at her, and a large smile came on his face as he moved closer, he wrapped his arms around her waist as he kissed her deeply. Feeling more happy then he ever had in a long time.

Kar blinked in slight surprise then slowly moved her arms around his neck. She still felt unsure about..well, everything, but ignored it now and just closed her eyes to block out the world.
